Animal rescue takes its toll on the people in the trenches but at True Rescue they laugh as hard as they cry.
Get to know Amy and Kristin as they save as many animals as they can while building out a rescue concept that puts animals first and provides support for other rescue groups.
Find out what happens behind the scenes and follow rescued animals stories as they get rehabilitated and find their forever homes.
Amy and Kristin's plans to launch a new animal rescue become fluid, literally, because of the pandemic. They adapt using Zoom meetups to try and roll with the punches, realizing after a couple of months that their margarita fueled sessions should have been recorded to show their ups and downs during lockdown. So plan B starts with becoming Zoom actors to re-enact their hilarious journey so that their followers can be involved in this process. Definitely not what they thought they'd be doing two months into starting a rescue. See the launch video here.
True Rescue finds a property. It's a Putt-Putt golf course and batting cage facility. You heard that right, our new facility is going to be all fun and games. We really needed the building for emergency sheltering. The mini-golf and batting cages and grounds can be used as is or made into agility courses, turtle ponds or anything we want.
This weeks animal stories include a funny story with a sad ending about a rescue puppy that turns out to be something else. Next we flip the script with a sad story with a happy ending about litter of kittens found in a trash bag. You'll also find out who TikTok the turtle is and how he became the first True Rescue.
Amy and Kristin set up a regular adoption event at PetSmart in Mt Juliet, TN and make hurricane relief plans for Lake Charles Louisiana.
This week Amy and Michael drive supplies to Lake Charles and help their friends at Big Sky Ranch on the ground in Louisiana. They lend support to some local cat groups, feed left behind strays and help get a pit bull puppy off the dangerous streets. Then a trip to the Baton Rouge Expo facility where Cara's House runs a hurricane intake that needed bottle feeding volunteers. The bottle babies had left on transport already but there was no way Amy was leaving empty handed when there were nursing and pregnant cats fading in the 109 degree heat.
Meanwhile, Kristin and Sandy place 15 pets in their forever homes during their weekly PetSmart adoption clinic. All in all a very busy but good week.
Amy is punchy and sleep deprived in this episode from a particularly loud litter of screaming kittens she's bottle feeding. She's also carrying around a funny little kitten with ringworm in a sling around her neck, hoping he makes it because of the extra attention.
Kristin isn't doing much better in the sleep department after staying up all night googling homemade cat food recipes and supplements then getting pooped on at an adoption event. Ah the glamorous life of animal rescue.
Loaded with donations, Amy, Kristin, Sarah and Joanne go to Florida to help Alaqua Animal Refuge after it was flooded by Hurricane Sally. They take the screaming bottle babies (kittens) with them so they can be fed every 2 hours along with Churro who was still struggling.
Churro didn't make it and neither did Fraggle, from last weeks podcast so Amy and Kristin created a video memorial for the kittens and coyote pup that died while receiving loving care. Every animal rescue doesn't end happy, but True Rescue feels it's important to honor and to be transparent about those who didn't make it.
Amy, Kristin and Flat Sandy take a quick trip to Alabama to rescue an injured nursing momma dog and her pups. The devoted dad catches a ride as well and wins everyone over with his gentle demeanor. Now dubbed the Addams Family, they are the first guests in the brand new but unfinished shelter.
3D Sandy talks about how she matches applications with the right animals and what the process entails as the True Rescue Adoption Coordinator. She also sings a bit from a new song that came into being while driving around lost with Amy called 'Backroad Jesus'.
After a brief pandemic related hiatus the gang is back with some new songs and shelter news. Hercules fights for his life after being thrown from a car window and the Field of Dreams litter recovers from being abandoned in freezing temperatures. Trixie the 5lb Chihuahua loves her new sweater and is snuggling...
